Starting out in 1979 "Taxi Dave", as he is known, drove a London taxi "just for fun" from the UK to Kenya. We have changed considerably moving on to build numerous overland expedition vehicles that we took across the Sahara to East Africa on "Trans Africas", before gradually establishing the fleet of The original yellow overland trucks as well as a workshop in East Africa.

Despite numerous changes we have remained a small tight operation dedicated to showing you and ensuring you experience the Africa we know and love. Africa overland trips

Our itineraries are carefully paced to avoid unnecessary drive days. The big highlights of Africa travel are there - gorilla treks, Zanzibar Island, white water rafting, The Masai Mara, Serengeti, Victoria Falls, The Okavango, the dunes of Namibia and the Garden Route in South Africa. We also include "down" time to allow you the chance to immerse yourself in every day life and experience the world around you. Travelling with an African specialist you will inevitably experience more on your overland tour. We are not afraid to take a new road and our itineraries are written to take you to some special places away from the standard carved route, designed to minimise doubling back so you can see and do more.

We also offer a wide range of Add Ons to compliment your Africa trip - beach stays on Zanzibar Island, trips along the Garden Route, safaris to the Masai Mara and our own professional specialist trekking team if you want to take on Kilimanjaro, the roof of Africa.

Staff and crew

There are two and sometimes three crew on our overland trucks, a driver and tour leader, with a cook provided on the Kenya and Tanzania component safaris.

With mainly African staff and crew, day to day on the road you have the privilege of seeing the world through African eyes. All our crew bring a love and intense passion to their work and the countries en route. Local crew bring a commitment and pride in their Continent that they are keen to share and all staff have an immense knowledge and are well experienced in travelling across the Continent. Day to day they share their excitement for Africa with you to enable you to have the trip of a lifetime.

Trucks, equipment and African Workshop and Base

Africa is a massive Continent and overland vehicles travel huge distances on the traditional routes in often very difficult conditions. With over thirty years of experience our team has built up an enviable knowledge and expertise in truck building, design and maintenance with specialist input from professional engineering firms.

Maintaining our own workshop, office and crew quarters in Africa we can guarantee our overland trucks have the detailed regular maintenance checks required as well as the benefit of invaluable inside local knowledge to keep things maintained and running smoothly. We can also be sure the trucks and crew receive the level of professional, logistical and administrative back up that is needed on the ground. Our local workshop also provides new and experienced crew ongoing hands on training and evaluation as well as local input and advice, a place to share ideas and to keep up to date as well as providing a place to call "home", away from home in between trips.

Your overland truck enhances your experience day to day on the road. It also becomes your home during your trip. Our trucks and kit have been developed with your comfort, safety, security, storage needs and convenience in mind, as well as the need for the vehicle to maximise your ability to see as much as possible.

The design includes the provision of:

• 4 inch thick foam sleep mattresses for a great nights sleep, as well as free standing three person dome tents.
• A large 115 litre fridge so that we can keep your food fresh and drinking water cool.
• UK power points so you can just plug in to charge your camera and other items via 600 watt power inverters.
• Individual forward facing seats with massive viewing windows so you can always see what you came to see in Africa and grab that opportune photo moment.
• Seatbelts fitted in all seats.
• Ready access to your belongings in underseat lockers for your day to day needs. Your large backpacks are easily accessible via secure outside lockers.

Safari Pricing

You will find our prices to be some of the best in the market. Our style of operation allows us to keep the trips affordable. We don't need to cover agent commissions, nor spend money on promotional or advertising agencies nor high street offices. Our bookings come from word of mouth in the main, from the recommendation of a friend or family member. The money you pay is channelled to the things that matter - your Africa trip, the ongoing maintenance of our overland fleet with its extensive kit of equipment, as well as the training, employing and support of our dedicated staff on the ground.
