Kigali to Zanzibar Safari Overview

Commencing with a trek to view the mountain gorilla and with every opportunity to see the big five and more in some of East African's best known game parks: the Masai Mara and the Serengeti. On the way experience the cultures and stunning geography of East Africa - Lake Victoria and the source of the white Nile, the Rift Valley, the vast savannah plains before finishing with a trip over to tropical Zanzibar island to relax on the pristine white beaches.

Itinerary

Days 1 - 4
RWANDA- UGANDA

 

Meet up in Kigali, Rwanda's capital city, Genocide Memorial and Museum, Kisoro.

 

Optionals:Visit to Dian Fossey's grave, mountain gorilla trek in either Parc National des Volcans (Rwanda) or Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (Uganda), trek to golden monkeys, orphanage visit, Batwa (Pygmy) village visit.

Days 5 - 10
UGANDA

Masaka or Mpanga Forest, Jinja, free day by the White Nile.

Optionals: Canoeing, whitewater rafting, bungee jumping, kayaking, voluntary work in a local school, quad biking, horse riding, sunset cruise on Lake Victoria.

Days 11 -12
KENYA

Lake Nakuru National Park, game drives.

Days 13 -16
KENYA

Orphanage visit, Lake Naivasha, Masai Mara game drives

Optionals: Cycling safari in Hells Gate National Park, guided walk to Green Crater Lake, Elsamere for afternoon tea, balloon safari, Maasai village visit.

Day 17
KENYA

Morning game drive, Masai Mara, Nairobi

Optional: Night out in a Nairobi restaurant.

Day 18
TANZANIA

Travel across the Athi Plains through to Arusha at the foot of Mount Meru.

Days 19 - 21
TANZANIA
Free time to allow for your choice of safari in the Northern Circuit game parks. With evening celebratory barbecue for the final night on our return from the game parks.

Optionals: Afternoon and morning game drives in the Serengeti National Park, afternoon drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation area, morning game drives in Ngorongoro Crater.

Days 22 - 23
TANZANIA
Two days drive to Dar es Salaam on the Coast, with the chance of views of Kilimanjaro on the way. Seafood barbecue at our camp by the Indian Ocean and preparations for the stay on Zanzibar Island.

Days 24 - 28
TANZANIA

Free time for a 4 night stay on Zanzibar Island....

Optional beach break: Optional free time to stay on Zanzibar Island from day 22, returning to Dar es Salaam on day 26:

Talk with us as to the special arrangements we can make for your accommodation staying in beach cottages and the traditional capital, ancient Stone Town and other requirements on the Island including transfers and spice tours.

Other options to budget for include snorkelling and scuba diving on Zanzibar's untouched coral reefs, a visit to Prison Island famous for its giant tortoise population and to Jozani Forest to see the red colobus monkeys.

All accommodation and transfers with a spice tours on Zanzibar Island can be arranged ahead of time.

Spending Money

You will need spending money to cover drinks, lunch and souvenirs whilst on tour. Spending money is also needed to cover meals when the truck parks up for a few days at specific activity locations - Jinja and Zanzibar Island. It also covers camping and meals on the offchance you don't participate in the overnight Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater Safari. Some campsites en route also have simple huts or chalets in which you can stay if you feel like a change from camping. Spending money is also needed to cover these times if you want the occasional upgrade from your tent!

The recommended spending money for the Gorillas to Zanzibar Safari is: £290 - £370.

Visa

Your passport needs to be valid for at least 6 - 9 months after your trip finishes. Ensure also that you have enough pages in your passport for each country you visit. As a guide then, for the Gorillas to Zanzibar safari you will need to have a minimum of 6 blank pages (sides).

If you have dual nationality you can only use one passport for the entire trip, but bringing both passports is a wise back-up strategy. You can find more information in the different country listings on the FCOs website (www.fco.gov.uk) under entry requirements. Do be aware it can be illegal to travel in Africa on two passports.

For this tour visas for most passport holders can be arranged in Africa en route. Please note that Rwandan Immigration also require the completion of an online facility document prior to arrival at the port of entry in order for you to obtain the East Africa visa which also covers Uganda and Kenya, which we can assist with.


Visas bought on the ground can only be paid for in US dollars cash.
