{"id":489,"date":"2011-02-13T14:44:36","date_gmt":"2011-02-13T14:44:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.absoluteafrica.com\/liveblog\/?p=489"},"modified":"2014-03-07T20:33:18","modified_gmt":"2014-03-07T20:33:18","slug":"day-5-lake-naivasha","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.absoluteafrica.com\/liveblog\/2011\/02\/day-5-lake-naivasha\/","title":{"rendered":"Day 5 &#8211; Lake Naivasha"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Happy Birthday Liz!!!<\/p>\n<p>Today it was another early start for some as it was a walk to Crater Lake.\u00a0\u00a0A leisurely walk through the wilderness where we came up close to giraffes, antelope and warthogs.\u00a0 No leopards decided to make a showing but it was worth the walk up to the Lake.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.absoluteafrica.com\/liveblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Hippo2b.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-490\" title=\"Hippo2b\" src=\"http:\/\/www.absoluteafrica.com\/liveblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Hippo2b-300x148.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"148\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.absoluteafrica.com\/liveblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Hippo2b-300x148.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.absoluteafrica.com\/liveblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Hippo2b.jpg 781w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>After meeting up with the new guys that arrived while we were away, it was time to get on the Lake and go hippo spotting.\u00a0 Our first encounter was with a single male hippo which we gave a wide birth to as our guide said could be very dangerous even in the water!!\u00a0 After passing a variety of water birds we saw a group of about eight hippos wallowing in the water it was a great sight to see.<\/p>\n<p>We continued on around the lake we collected some small fish off <a href=\"http:\/\/www.absoluteafrica.com\/liveblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Crayfish-camp-fishermen1b.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-491\" title=\"Crayfish camp fishermen1b\" src=\"http:\/\/www.absoluteafrica.com\/liveblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Crayfish-camp-fishermen1b-300x214.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.absoluteafrica.com\/liveblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Crayfish-camp-fishermen1b-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.absoluteafrica.com\/liveblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Crayfish-camp-fishermen1b.jpg 692w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>the local fisherman for the attempt to attract the local Fish Eagles to fly near us.\u00a0 After a few whistles by the captian of the boat and the throwing of the fish into the water, the eagles flew down from the nearby trees and retrieved the fish with their sizeable talons.\u00a0 Some great photos were taken!!<\/p>\n<p>On then, to Elsamere, the once home of the famous conservationists, Joy and George Adamson most famous from the film \u201cBorn Free\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0 We watched a DVD about their colourful lives,\u00a0 looked around the house which is now a museum and the head quarters of the Born Free Foundation and then it was time to enjoy a variety of homemade cakes, coffee and freshly squeezed lemonade, so very civilised for us lot!!<\/p>\n<p>After a quick shower it was off into the local village for dinner. \u00a0Again it was a feast of food all from local produce and freshly cooked.\u00a0 It was delicious and an enjoyable experience for all.\u00a0 Back to the bar for a couple of beers and then to bed, because tomorrow we are off to the Masai Mara&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Happy Birthday Liz!!!
