ZAMBIA

Important note: This safari starts in Victoria Falls on either the Zambian side of the Zambezi River in Livingstone or the Zimbabwean side of the Zambezi River in Victoria Falls itself. Flights can be arranged in to either side of the River, into Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe or Livingstone, Zambia. We can then arrange your transfer to the meeting point. Note when budgeting there can be extra visa and transfer costs if you need to cross the River to meet us. All the activities you wish to do prior to departure can be done on either side of the Falls, and the views from both sides as well are fabulous. Feel free to call for further information.

When arranging flights do remember we leave The Falls on the first day of the safari so arrive in early to allow time to see the spectacular Victoria Falls and enjoy some of the many adventure sports on offer including white water rafting, the gorge swing, a sunset cruise and lion walks. The truck arrives in The Falls 3 to 4 days prior to departure and you are more than welcome to join us during this time.

At the Falls, the Zambezi plummets 1,000 meters over the gorge, creating a mist cloud rising metres into the air and the thundering impact can be heard from far off. For this safari you should arrive at least three days prior to the trip's departure ensuring enough time to enjoy all the activities you may wish to do.

For the adventurous spirit time can be spent white water rafting, bungee jumping, riverboarding and sky diving. A flight over the Falls, known as the 'Flight of the Angels', is available in a helicopter, fixed wing plane, microlight or ultralight. Take a walk by the Falls through the lush tropical forest. The sunset cruise on the Zambezi River can complete a perfect day. Your crew are available and more than happy to help should you require assistance during the period prior to departure.

BOTSWANA

On the first day we leave Vic Falls for Botswana to camp at a lodge in Chobe from where we organise a game drive in Chobe National Park itself. You can also take a cruise on the tranquil waters of the Chobe River, the river being a magnet for the park's large elephant population who enjoy playing in and beside the River.

The following day we reach Maun via Makgadikgadi Pans for the option of a mokoro safari into the Okavango Delta. This true inland delta, with its crystal clear water channels, lagoons and flood plains, is home to some of Africa's finest bird life and most unusual flora. Being poled by the Delta boatsmen, through the maze of islands in a traditional dug-out canoe is an ideal way to experience this enchanting and peaceful landscape.

Alternatively a flight over the Delta allows you fabulous views of the meandering water ways and surrounds.

NAMIBIA

We enter Namibia via Rundu or Ghanzi visiting a Bushmen or Himba tribe on the way to experience a little of traditional ways.

Our next stop is the Hoba meteorite, the world's largest before we enter Etosha National Park, known to the Owambo People as 'the great white place of dry water'. Its definitive feature is the vast shallow 5,000 km depression of the Pan which for most of the year is a bleak expanse of white cracked mud shimmering with mirages. A vast array of animals live around the pan, including elephant, lion, gemsbok, zebra, black rhino, giraffe, cheetah and leopard. Etosha's 'ellies' are reputedly the largest in Africa.

We also visit a cheetah sanctuary during this time where you can get close enough to pat tame cheetah. On our way to the Skeleton Coast we enjoy a bush camp under the vast African night sky and pause to explore ancient Bushmen rock engravings before travelling onto the Cape Cross Seal Reserve. At this colony as many as 200, 000 seals gather during the November/December breeding season.

Driving south we reach Swakopmund with all its exciting dune sports - quadbiking, sandboarding as well as tandem sky diving, open sea fishing and flights over the Namib Desert and Skeleton Coast. For insight into day to day life in the townships, a tour can be organised with money going to the local community. During our stay in Swakopmund we also enjoy staying in a popular lodge, leaving truck life behind for a few days.

From here we travel on to Sesriem and visit Sossusvlei and its massive red dunes where we take a guided tour to find out more about this extraordinary environment.

From here we stop over at Fish River Canyon, reputedly second only in size to the Grand Canyon. The Canyon is set in a stony plain scantily covered with succulents and the famous kokerboom 'quiver treees'. With a maximum depth of 550 metres, the canyon was carved out over millions of years by the Fish River, Namibia's longest river.

We now visit Ai Ais Hot Springs Resort for a soak before travelling onto South Africa. These hot springs with temperatures of 60 degrees Celsius, are rich in sulphate, fluorides and chlorides and are reputed to have healing qualities.

SOUTH AFRICA

We reach South Africa camping a night by the Orange River where you can enjoy a lazy time in the river.

Through the wine areas of Cape Province and onto Cape Town our safari finishes at Ashanti Lodge at the foot of Table Mountain where we stay the night after enjoying a last night out together in this beautiful city. The Travel Shop at Ashanti is happy to advise you on the many activities and sights available in and around Cape Town and your onward journey, including visiting Robben Island, Table Mountain,The Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, abseiling, whale watching, great white shark dives, visits to the wineries and the Garden Route.
