UGANDA
We meet you on the evening prior at Entebbe Tourists Hostel and Campsite where you can camp with the truck.
Travelling by traditional canoe on our first day we arrive on tranquil Ngamba Island for close up views of the 32 orphaned chimpanzees that roam the Chimpanzee Sanctuary. We also enjoy a traditional fish lunch.
From here it is a scenic drive to the beautiful Lake Bunyoni which sits in the mists clinging to the Mfumbiro Hills, with a stop over on the way for photos on the equator.
There is time for a swim or to canoe on the lake in the morning before the truck drives throught to Buhoma village at the base of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Here the villagers entertain us with traditional dancing and singing. Village walks can also be arranged. Alternatively we travel through to the frontier town of Kisoro or to Ruhengeri in Rwanda from where we trek in the Parc Nacional de Volcans.
From the count on the latest census there are 720 mountain gorillas left on the planet of which approximately half live in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, the other half living in the Rwandan park. We trek through the thickly forested mountainous terrain that is their world to spend an hour with a group of these gentle creatures before returning to relax and enjoy a celebratory meal.
Leaving Kabale we drive through to Mpambire Village to enjoy the work of the traditional royal drum makers and perhaps bargain for a drum.
On the months when the world famous migration is usually in the Serengeti we now visit Queen Elizabeth National Park for a game cruise and game drives in spectacular scenery.
We then drive to Jinja to camp beside Bujagali Falls. Here we can have a quiet day by the river to relax, swim or fish. For those who want some excitement you can spend time on the river white water rafting, quad bike or try the Nile High Bunji. There are also guided walks in the village or you can get involved in volunteer community project work in a local school.
Crossing into Kenya we drive through to Kembu, a working upcountry farm. The next day entering Lake Nakuru National Park we take afternoon game drives, camping for the night in the park. Lake Nakuru is famous for the flocks of greater and lesser flamingo and its black and white rhino population. On a lucky day we might also spy a leopard lounging in a tree. The park has also different species of antelope, as well as zebra, giraffe, hippo and lion.
We rise early for a morning game drive and breakfast at Baboon Cliffs before leaving the park for our next stop, Elsamere Conservation Centre. Here we watch a video on Joy Adamson's life and enjoy afternoon tea in the grounds, the black and white colobos coming down to sit with us on the lawns. Staying for two nights by Lake Naivasha we visit Hells Gate National Park for a walking safari or hire mountain bikes to cycle in the park. The Maasai Centre in the park is also of interest. Enjoy the birdlife including herons, darters and storks found around the lake margins and in the evening watch the hippo come out on the lawns.
On departures from 24 May to 27 September 09 we now set off on safari on the rolling savannah plains of the Masai Mara when the world's largest migration of land mammals is usually arriving from the Serengeti. During the migration over a million gnu, zebra and antelope are on the move. The predators - lion, leopard, cheetah and hyenas - are also usually not far behind, the open landscapes of both the Mara and the Serengeti offering unique opportunities to experience the unfolding drama of nature between prey and predator.
Arriving in Nairobi we visit Sheldrick's Animal Orphanage for the morning feeding session, Daphne Sheldrick being famous for her work with orphaned elephants. We also visit Langatta Giraffe Park where we can hand feed giraffe before our final meal together in one of Nairobi's restaurants.
Taxi transfers to the airport and any overnight accommodation needed can be arranged.
ADD-ON: 4 day safari into Tanzania A safari into Tanzania's Serengeti and Ngorongoro is also an add-on option after the Gorilla and Game Park Safari.
The Crater and the Serengeti is a fascinatingly beautiful and wild region and a unique sanctuary for African wildlife. Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest extinct volcano and here you can view rhino, hippo, lion, elephant, hyena, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, impala, monkey, ostrich and flamingo. On the lucky day you might also spy a cheetah. Then from there travel across the vast grasslands of the Serengeti which is part of a revolving stage with the Mara for the herds of wildebeest and zebra on their annual migration. The Serengeti is usually at its absolute best from late December to May.
